Students ask each other simple questions to build conversational confidence.

Students practise asking and answering personal questions in conversation.

  1. 1 Model a few simple personal questions for the class.
  2. 2 Show how to answer with more than one word.
  3. 3 Put students into pairs and ask them to take turns asking and answering questions.
  4. 4 Encourage students to ask follow-up questions to continue the conversation.
  5. 5 Walk around the class and support students who need help.
  6. 6 After a few minutes, ask students to change partners and repeat the activity.
  7. 7 Invite a few students to share something they learned about their partner.
  8. 8 Finish by discussing what made a conversation easy or interesting.
