Picture Story

Overview

Students look at a series of pictures and work together to build a clear and logical story.

Learning Objective
Students organise ideas and create a simple story using visual prompts.

Resources needed

  • Simple drawings or pictures

Lesson stages

0 / 8 done
  1. 1 Show students three or four simple pictures and give them time to look carefully at each one.
  2. 2 Ask students to work in small groups and discuss what is happening in each picture.
  3. 3 Encourage them to decide the correct order of the pictures and explain their reasons.
  4. 4 Once the order is clear, ask students to create a short story that connects all the pictures.
  5. 5 Support them by reminding them to use sequence words such as 'first', 'then', and 'finally'.
  6. 6 Invite each group to share their story with the class, either by reading or speaking.
  7. 7 Compare different stories and discuss how the same pictures can create different ideas.
  8. 8 Finish by asking students how they decided on the order and what helped them organise their story.

Tap a step to mark it as done.

Variations

  • Students draw their own picture sets.
  • Focus on speaking instead of writing.
  • Change the ending of the story.
