Overview

Students explore their surroundings using their senses and describe what they notice.

  1. 1 Ask students to stand quietly and focus on their surroundings for a short moment.
  2. 2 Explain that they will describe what they can see, hear, and feel.
  3. 3 Model simple sentences, such as describing sounds or textures.
  4. 4 Put students into pairs and ask them to share what they notice.
  5. 5 Encourage them to use full sentences and describe at least two different senses.
  6. 6 Walk around and support students with vocabulary.
  7. 7 Invite a few students to share their observations with the class.
  8. 8 Finish by discussing how using senses helped them describe more clearly.
