More information

Use physical movement as a scaffold — children hear and feel the count at the same time.

Children who cannot move easily can use a stone or stick as a marker instead.

Can children count steps without losing track? Do they understand 'how many more to the end'?

Scratch the path into soil or use stones to mark spaces. A pebble or stick serves as a marker. No chalk or printed materials needed.

Children often count the starting space as step 1, arriving one space too early. Clarify that counting begins on the first move, not the starting position.
