Station Circuit

Overview

Students rotate around stations, doing a different exercise at each one for a set time.

Learning Objective
Students improve general fitness by completing a series of exercise stations.

Resources needed

  • Open space
  • Markers for stations (stones or sticks)

Lesson stages

0 / 7 done
  1. 1 Set up 5–6 stations around the space.
  2. 2 Assign one exercise to each station: e.g. jumping jacks, press-ups, squat jumps, running on spot, sit-ups, balance on one leg.
  3. 3 Students work for 30 seconds at each station.
  4. 4 Rest for 15 seconds between stations.
  5. 5 Rotate clockwise to the next station.
  6. 6 Complete the full circuit twice.
  7. 7 Cool down with slow walking and stretching.

Tap a step to mark it as done.

Variations

  • Students choose their own exercise at each station.
  • Increase work time to 45 seconds for more challenge.
  • Add a partner station where two students work together.
More information

Demonstrate each exercise clearly before starting. Post a simple drawing at each station showing the movement.

Students choose the intensity level for each exercise — e.g. half press-ups instead of full.

Are students maintaining effort throughout? Can they describe which exercises they found hardest and why?

No equipment needed. Mark stations with stones or draw circles in the ground. All exercises use body weight only.

Students often do exercises too fast with poor technique. Emphasise quality over quantity at every station.

Circuit training develops multiple components of fitness simultaneously. It is easily adapted for any ability level.
