More information

The one-at-a-time distribution method is intuitive. Encourage children to verbalise as they share.

Draw circles on the ground to represent groups so the spaces are visible and concrete.

Do children distribute equally without prompting? Can they explain why a group is or isn't fair?

Draw circles in soil to represent groups. Use seeds, pebbles, or leaves as the objects to share.

Children often give multiple objects to one group before moving on, creating unequal groups. They may also lose track of how many groups there are while distributing. Establish the groups visually before starting.
