More information

Draw or use objects to represent each category so literacy is not a barrier.

Draw the graph on the ground using lines and stones — no paper needed.

Can children read the graph to answer a question? Do they understand that height of the column means more?

Draw columns in soil or on the ground with a stick. Use stones or seeds as counters in each column. No paper, pens, or printed resources needed.

Children often say the tallest column 'wins' or 'is best' rather than reading it as 'most'. Separate the idea of quantity from value — more votes means more people chose it, not that it is the correct answer.
