More information

Teach: jump, land, bend, safe, two feet. Demonstrate each jump type clearly before children try.

Some children can step over lines instead of jumping. Focus on the landing technique for all.

Do children bend their knees when landing? Can they land without falling forward or backward?

Draw lines in soil or use sticks on the ground as jumping targets. No mats or equipment needed.

Children often land with straight legs, which can cause injury. Emphasise bent knees every time.

Safe jumping and landing is a fundamental movement skill. Establish it early before introducing heights.
